Please read the chapters about Betty Rose and Robert before you start this Discusion. These are the readings that are in the Section 3 Module. Students need to read both stories because they will be on the Exam.

Option 1: Betty-Rose Discussion Forum:
Betty Rose’s story is about her experiences and issues of experiencing sexual abuse. Chapter 5 in your book will also be helpful because it deals with rape.

Paragraph 1: Discuss two reasons why victims of sexual abuse usually do not report the crime.
Paragraph 2: Discuss why family members want to believe that the victim is lying.
Option 2: Robert Discussion Forum:
Robert’s story deals with drugs, alcohol, criminal activities, and incarceration.
Robert Discussion Questions:
Paragraph 1: Discuss two reasons why young people might join gangs.
Paragraph 2: Discuss two reasons why young people might start using drugs or alcohol.

Posts must follow Netiquette rules. Discussion forum posts and responses must not be hostile in nature, ridicule or insult other students, or make subtle or obvious threats. Main Post Reguirements:
Students are expected to submit a “Main Post” which is their reply to the Discussion Forum topic.
Main posts should be 250 – 300 words. Do not exceed 300 words. You can keep your posts under 300 words by not repeating the question and by not having an introduction. Exceeding the word count limit of 300 words will result in a 20 point penalty.
Include a word count at the end of your main post. Failure to include a word count will result in a 20 point penalty.
You must separate your answers into the required paragraphs. Failure to separate your answers into paragraphs will result in a 20 point penalty.
Main posts must be submitted on the first day of the Discussion Forum and may be submitted until midnight.
Late Main Posts will receive a 20 point penalty per day up until the final day of the Discussion Forum.
Peer Posts Requirements: Peer Posts are responses to another student’s Main Post.
Students must submit two Peer Posts (10 points possible per post.) You may submit extra peer posts, however, you will not receive extra points.
Peer Posts must be original responses of about 75 – 100 words. Do not exceed 100 words.
You must submit a Main Post before you can submit a Peer Post.
Include a word count at the end of your peer responses. Failure to include a word count will result in a 5 point penalty per post.
Always address your classmates by name in ALL your replies.
Peer posts must be submitted before midnight on the last day of the scheduled Discussion Forum.
Late Peer Posts will not be accepted.

The post/comment lacks at least one of the above qualities, but is above average in quality.
It makes a significant contribution to our understanding of the issue being discussed.
The post contains minor grammatical errors or sentence structure problems.
Average (C) : Main post: 35-39 points Peer posts: 14-15 points total for 2 posts
The post/comment lacks two of the three required qualities.
Comments solely based upon personal opinion or personal experience often fall within this category.
The post contains many grammatical errors or sentence structure problems.
Minimal (D) : Main post: 30-34 points Peer posts: 12-13 points total for 2 posts
The post/comment presents little or no new information. However, the comment may provide important social presence and contribute to a learning atmosphere.
The post contains substantial grammatical errors or sentence structure problems.
Unacceptable (F) : Main post: 0-29 points Peer post: 0-11 points total for 2 posts
