3. Selection

Julia needs help with preparing a process for selection and interviewing.

4. Training & Onboarding

Julia would like your help to create an orientation procedure for this new employee.

Using what you’ve learned about onboarding, put together a sample orientation program for Julia. Pay attention to how people learn. We want this to be a productive experience both for the new employee and for the organization as a whole, so think strategically…(is it sufficient to offer coffee and donuts along with required forms to fill out? What should orientation really accomplish?)
5. Diversity, Inclusion, and Equity

Julia is about to hire her fifteenth employee, which means that her business will be subject to Title VII of the Civil Rights Act, prohibiting discrimination based on protected status. Julia has also expressed that she cares about ensuring that her business offers an inclusive work environment.

1) What should Julia do to ensure that her company is in compliance with Title VII? Prepare a list of five specific “reminders” regarding common situations where Title VII violations may occur, and what to do in those situations in order to ensure non-discrimination. Remember that the focus here is on avoiding illegal discrimination.

2) Beyond legal compliance, what advice can you offer Julia on developing and maintaining an inclusive workplace? What principles should she be aware of? What actions can she take?
