The first part of your paper will focus on the best way to frame your message about the social policy issue selected for the group project. It is critical that your message is clearly worded and concise. Think about every word you use and make every word count. Be aware of how the language you use will influence your audience. For example, when Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. wrote his letter while in the Birmingham Jail to religious leaders, he often used scripture or examples from the Bible to make his points. His letter is an excellent example of how to frame an issue in a way that can help people understand your viewpoint. This is a three-page APA (7th ed.) formatted paper with a cover and reference page. Use the headings listed below in your paper and refer to Canvas for the due date. Heading – Effective Messaging 1) Provide the most effective messages to persuade people that your position is correct and your analyses of the causes of a problem are valid. This may be research data or personal stories, statistics on the prevalence of an issue or trends regarding increase in the number of people impacted or reduction in impact because of effective policy changes. Heading – Stakeholders 2) Indicate who you feel is most likely to respond to this issue. Take care to not identify groups or organizations too broadly. For example, if the issue you are addressing is tax reform, “taxpayers” is too broad of a category and should be narrowed down. For example, high income earners, families with children or people who receive the Earned Income Tax Credit is appropriate.
