The Taliban was designated as a terrorist organization by the United Nations, and individual members of the current Taliban government in Afghanistan are listed as terrorists by the United States and wanted by the FBI. Right now, the Taliban is the de facto government of Afghanistan and Afghanistan is an extreme humanitarian crisis. In your paper please answer: How has the introduction of counter-terrorism concerns post 9/11 shaped the humanitarian arena? How do we see, if we do, the effects of counter-terrorism concerns in the delivery of humanitarian aid to Afghanistan? Your answer should refer to at least two of the readings in the last two weeks, it should touch upon legal, moral, and practical challenges in the delivery of humanitarian aid to Afghanistan and should be rooted in facts about the current scale of the humanitarian crisis in Afghanistan.

1. From the movie, Born in Syria, immigrant families are sometimes broken down and separated due to the conflict in Syria. For example, the two brothers were separated because the uncle was accused of hitting one of them. This leads to the question of even though the material conditions can be met to a certain extent through aid, how helpful is it to people in the long run if their mental health is not being taken care of?
2. In the reading by D. Hilhorst and B.J. Jansen, they mentioned that the Sri Lanka government is using humanitarian work to fulfill their political objectives. (pg. 1129) When the humanitarian aid refused to do so, they instead made it sound as though the humanitarian aid are using it only on themselves and not really helping. Seeing as though humanitarian aid is already reliant on organizations such as the UN, what should the UN do in order to maintain principles of neutrality and impartiality.
3. The Nogueira article states that humanitarian framework is built to amend the shortcomings of the post-colonial and post-socialist states as “these states were considered lacking in institutional capacity to exercise the monopoly of the use of violence to impose order and secure cohesiveness of national communities.” (pg. 4) However, as the framework of humanitarianism is currently dominated by global capitalist ideologies, should we rethink the framework of humanitarianism.
4. The movie Born in Syria portrays that even though there are feel good success stories, there are countless tragedies that are unheard of where families are either separated or they do not even make the journey alive. Moreover, once the passage is completed the EU only provides temporary visa for refugees which forces them to relocate again, does this mean that the current humanitarian framework set up for failure for refugees in the current political climate.
