Discuss several theories that have been used to explain why people use drugs. These theories are based on biological, psychological, and sociological explanations. The biological explanations seem to blame drug use on circumstances outside the user’s control – such as genetic disposition. The sociological theories place the blame on society, while the psychological theories seem to be a bit of both. Which type of theory do you feel provides the best explanation for drug use, and why. Or, if you think it is a combination of them, which specific theories in each category do you think applies most (i.e., predisposition, positive reinforcement, social control, etc.). Please give examples to explain your response.
