Test
Critique (100 pts)
For this assignment, students will write a 10 page
test critique (APA 7th edition format). Students will choose two
counseling assessments (i.e. two self-esteem assessments, two depression
inventories, etc.) that aim to measure the same construct. They will then write
a test critique that involves reviewing the history, test construction,
psychometric properties, ethical concerns, and cultural issues inherent in both
assessments. Students will also compare and contrast the two assessments based
on these concepts. Specifically, students will respond to the following
questions:
1.
Which
assessment (if any) appears to best measure the purported construct? Why?
2.
Which
assessment (if any) best addresses cultural/gender/social class issues?
3.
Which
assessment (if any) provides the most detail to assist the counselor in
providing treatment?
4.
Which
assessment (if any) best addresses potential ethical issues, such as counselor
competency? In other words, is the test standardized with a specific protocol,
and if not, how might administration by untrained counselors impact clients?
Information about the
assessments that can be helpful for evaluating the assessments and writing the
paper can include (but may not be limited to):
(a) introduction,
(b) purpose of the test,
(c) norm group [sample size, demographics, gender,
age, ethnicity],
(d) evidence of different types of reliability
(test-retest, alternate forms, internal consistency) and evidence of different
types of validity (content, criterion, construct, and social),
(e) instrument bias,
(f) level of competency for administration and
interpretation,
(g) outside reviews found in Tests in Print and Mental
Measurements Yearbooks, Test Manuals,
(h) administration of the test,
(i) practical issues of the test,
(k) summary of test critique, and
(l) reference section
