In this week’s course material — lecture, readings, slides, etc. we examined social change as it relates to labour relations and human rights. We focused on the scenario of the FIFA World Cup in Qatar in 2022 and the human rights challenges made by Amnesty International as a case that highlights the complexity of this area of social responsibility for sport organizations. In this week’s forum I would like you to apply the knowledge gained from this week’s material in your post response to the following:
What might a sport organization, either a commercial–such as a professional sport league/team/association or a not-for-profit organization such as the IOC, FIFA, or a national governing body such as Gymanistics Canada — do to develop, implement, and monitor labour relations such that its own organization does not abuse human rights and that those stakeholders that it interacts with to support delivery of its service or product are also held to account? In your response consider the challenges faced by organizations in addressing this area or social responsibility and end with a “burning question” you have for your peers about the content in this week’s material.
