Instructions for Informative Speaking Assignment:
Relationships In the Workplace.
Students, you are instructed to compose and present an Informative Speech on
the above topic using formality. Use the sentence outline as discussed in course
materials (sample is below) to prepare the speech. The delivery methods for the
speech will be the manuscript (primary) and the memorized (to accompany the
primary method). Select one type of relationship that is common to workplaces and
discuss it using three main points for discussion. For example, co-workers,
supervisors, dating, friendships, management, vendors, and clients.
Further, work to perfect the following: content (i e., its quality, volume of
information, and choice of words and their use), use of eye contact, gestures, bodily
movements, room design, creativity, visual aids, knowledge of the information,
posture, agreement of facial expressions and tone of voice, self-confidence, inflection,
enunciation, articulation, pronunciation, projection, and speech rate.
Show public speaking that you are the boss. Don’t run or hide from it. Instead, see yourself as
the professional with information to share, and share it!!!!
Assignment Format – Introduction
A. Capture the positive attention of your listeners (i e., quote, startling
statement, tasteful humor, appropriate music, rhetorical or non-rhetorical
questions, greeting, or similar method).
B. Provide background (also known as general) information on the topic.
C. Clearly state the specific goal (also referred to as purpose) for the listeners.
D. Clearly state the thesis statement (also known as central idea).
E. Clearly state three main points for discussion. (Do not discuss the points in
this section.)

A. Main Point One: Use a full-sentence transition to begin discussing point in
detail. To achieve this, you will need at least five to eight sentences. Use
guideposts throughout the talk.

Assignment Format – The Summary and Conclusion
A. Use a conclusion indicator to indicate you are about to summarize the overall
speech.
B. Summarize the specific purpose and restate the thesis statement and points
for discussion.
C. Make your final statement, phrase, or question powerful – profound. Leave
the listeners wanting more, inspired.
D. To finally end the speech: For example, say, “Thank you for listening. I hope
you have enjoyed my presentation” or “I appreciate your attentiveness to my
speech. Please enjoy the rest of your day” then return to your seat.
Adhere to the allotted speaking time (4.5 minutes minimum or 5 minutes
maximum or 6.5 minutes minimum or 7 minutes maximum) as indicated by
the professor. Your time is 5 minutes.
You must incorporate a minimum of three different reputable references from
three different reputable sources, and only one source may be a www. for
this assignment. Refer to APA writing style format as indicated in the
Syllabus. All references must be stated orally at the time the quoted and/or
paraphrased information is used.
