Dramaturgy Project
For this assignment, you will play the dramaturg. Read, research, and analyze a global play of your choice beyond our required course readings but within the historical span of 1550-1925, and imagine if that play were to be staged this fall by the professional regional theatre company A Noise Within in Pasadena, California
Create dramaturgical resources for your audience:
1) a note introducing the play
400-500 words
• provide brief exposition of the dramatic action without giving away the ending
describe historical context of the original production
• explain directorial vision (i.e. setting the play in an original time and place; you have the opportunity to play the director too!)
justify why this play remains important today
2) An interview with the playwright
200-250 words
• include biographical information
• offer the playwright’s intention behind the play
3) A works cited page
• list your primary theatrical text
• use at least two secondary, scholarly sources that are books or journal articles, not simply websites, that aided your note and interview. **NO WIKIPEDIA OR ENCYCLOPEDIA**
