The objective of this task is to assess: 1) reading
comprehension, 2) analytical skills, and 3) written skills.

The goal of this assignment is: 1) to demonstrate that
you have completed the readings, 2) you understand the main topics and 3) can
express them in the responses to these questions.
Instructions: Response 600 words/two
page minimum per question except where it is stated differently (please include
word count at end of each response); Times New Roman; 12 font and 1.5 spacing.
Please place your name & date at the top of the page. Then please write
each question(s) you are answering first then your response (Q&A). Please
use a consistent form of citations throughout your response paper. It is required to reference our readings – it not only
supports your arguments and greatly helps your grade 🙂 and you are welcome to
use additional sources.

Homework Questions #2: Weeks #4-6
Please choose any Three (3) questions to answer with thanks.

Discuss the
dilemma of dynamics and identity of political Islam as a result of expansion of
western model of nation-state throughout the Muslim world.
2)
Discuss the
characteristics of the rise of “Muslim democracy” and the interaction with the
opposition – please give country examples (Turkey, Morocco, Jordan, Pakistan,
Indonesia, Malaysia) – a minimum of two examples please.
3)
Please discuss and
give example of the state as the sole agent of Islamization and claims to be
the only authority to define Islam?
4)
How is Islamism
likely to evolve in Saudi Arabia? Please describe an example of Tribal
Islamists – background, key positions & future?

Khomeini” – Discuss Iran as a state that came about through a popular
revolution (1979).

and Taliban – are they political parties, charities or simply militants? And
why? What are the set of different
political opportunity structures that are presented in a weak or absent state?

Why are Muslim
populations in Central Asia increasingly turning to militant Islam in their
efforts to challenge authoritarian rule?
