Interview – Living with Mental Illness (30 points)

The purpose of this project is to help you understand the experiences of someone who suffers from mental illness. Interview someone you know (or are on speaking terms with) who suffers from some a psychological disorder about his or her condition (for example, but not limited to: schizophrenia, depression, chemical dependency, eating disorder, etc.).
This person must have received a formal diagnosis in order for you to interview them for this assignment.
Suggested questions include (but are not limited to):
• What is/was your diagnosis?
• When did you first notice something wasn’t right?
• What symptoms emerged to suggest there was a problem?
• What prompted you to seek help?
• How did the disorder affect school, jobs, relationships, and activities?
• How difficult was it to seek help?
• What was the treatment like?
• What challenges do you face today as a result of the disorder?
Summarize the interview and describe what you have learned from this person’s experience. Be sure to focus on your impressions of what it’s like to live with this disorder on a daily basis. If you use other resources for this paper (e.g. your textbook), proper APA references and citations are required.
