Where did the term “Goth” originate? Describe what the cathedrals were used for, what kind of materials they were built out of, and what was unique about their floor plans. Describe why they were so tall and majestic. Explain what a flying buttress is. Describe some of the features found in all gothic cathedrals, (such as stained glass, gargoyles, etc) and explain why they were incorporated into the cathedral design. Additionally, include a description of at least two prominent Gothic cathedrals.
