Each answer should contain up to 300 words (not including tables, bibliography, footnotes, or appendices).
Use at least two academic sources (i.e. articles published in peer-reviewed academic journals and/or in books published in well-established academic presses) and two general sources (websites, newspapers, magazines etc.) for each question.
Also use data from official government and municipal sources, as well as from international organizations (UN, World Bank, etc.).
Cite the sources for all data, and any images, graphs or other visual materials.

1. Urbanization Trends (refers to Unit 1)
Explore how the city that you selected has urbanized over time.
A. Present key data on urbanization processes in your city in a concise table (up to one page, not counted as part of the 300-word limit). Your table should include the following information:
· Trace the population growth of the urban agglomeration over the past several decades
· Include projections for its future growth through 2030 (or 2050 if available)
· Compare your city to one additional city in the country or region, and to the country as a whole.
B. Based on an analysis of the data in the table above, construct a coherent argument about the city’s growth over time. Consult and refer to additional sources to briefly answer these questions:
· Has the city experienced periods of particularly rapid or stagnant growth? What might be the historical reasons for these?
· Is the city’s growth expected to accelerate or slow down in the future? What are the reasons for this?

2. Global City Characteristics (refers to Unit 3)
A. Explore the main features which connect your city to the global economy. Present the data in a concise table (up to one page, not counted as part of the 300-word limit). Your table should include the following information:
· Provide a few specific examples of the main global firms and advanced service industries clustered in the city
· Provide key data on other important global features (e.g. migration, tourism, media, cultural products, factory production, and other services)
B. Explain whether your city should (or should not) be considered a “global city”?
· Your answer should build on Saskia Sassen’s definition of a global city and its main “hypotheses” (discussed in Unit 3).
· Consult and refer to additional sources to briefly discuss who are the “winners” and “losers” of globalization in your city.
· For example, has globalization impacted socioeconomic inequality in your city? Present a well-reasoned argument based on cited facts and references.
