The Discussion Assignment
Before beginning our study of Russian culture, it is important for you to have a sense of the geography of Russia. Russia is the largest country in the world. There are remarkable physical features, regions, and cities in Russia. It would be impossible to visit all of them in a lifetime. So, this DB will allow you the chance to visit one Russian city, region, or physical feature on the Internet. As a group, the learning goal would be that you will report on enough regions, cities, or physical features in Russia to make you feel confident that you have learned a great deal about Russia in one week.
Step-by-Step Directions:
1. You will choose on of the following for your”virtual tour” of Russia. You can choose one Russian city, region, or physical feature of Russia on the Internet. Please do not visit Moscow or St. Petersburg. Check out cities in any area of Russia. Or you can research Russian physical features (Lake Baikal, Kamchatka, Urals, Mount Elbrus, etc….).
2. On the Internet, take a “virtual tour” of your choice of Russian places. Look for official tourist sites for the region. Visit as many sites as you wish. The goal would be to make your contribution to the class’ knowledge as concise and thorough as possible. PLEASE, do not forget to include the strings to the sites that you visited on your “virtual tour”. You should list at least two (2) websites that you used to create your report on the bottom of your first post.
3. In your first post, report on your impressions on what you saw (one paragraph for the area you visited) and include your source website strings and pictures. Try to post your report by Wednesday evening. To post pictures, open up the edit ribbon to show 3 rows. Find the picture icon and click this. Follow the directions to post your picture. If this does not work for you, don’t worry. Posting a picture is not mandatory.
4. Visit as many of your classmates initial posts to learn as much as you can about Russia. Be sure to leave a response with one thoughtful question. Avoid any question that would require a simple Yes or No answer.
5. Check back on your own initial post and respond to any questions your classmates’ may have about your place in Russia that you visited virtually.
