Using the discussion in The American Yawp Chapter 3, Section II. Slavery and the Making of Race and the video below entitled “The Middle Passage and Black Latin America,” write a 3 paragraph essay. The first paragraph should be a description of the Middle Passage and the development of a slave system/slave laws in North America based on the textbook and the lecture notes. The second paragraph should be a description of the Middle Passage and the development of slavery/slave laws in Latin America based on the video. The third paragraph should be a comparison (similarities and differences) of the experiences of Black slaves to the two regions. I do not expect you to include every detail but I do expect your essay to be thorough. Write the essay as if you are a traveler re-telling what you saw on your travels. You may have a few of your own personal thoughts about this period in history that you are free to add in this paragraph. But remember that you are still a traveler re-telling what you saw. What you said was correct. But you could have said more. In the first and second paragraphs, there are no descriptions of the trip in the Middle Passage and the textbook and notes discuss extensively the conditions of the Middle Passage to North America. The video discussed the conditions of the Middle Passage to Latin America. There is no mention of slaves or the differences between North American slavery and Latin American slavery.
