Start with “Dear Ms. Aiello,” and then include the following information in your letter.
 Why did O’Brien write this book? Provide at least one effectively integrated quotation as
well as detailed paraphrased evidence and thorough analysis to support your ideas.
 Choose two stories to respond to. Do not summarize the plot; rather, express how each story
has struck you in some way. Your reactions do not need to be positive; in fact, you can select
a story (or two) that you did not care for. Support your reasons with at least one effectively
integrated quotation from each story as well as detailed paraphrased evidence and thorough
analysis.
 What insights about the Vietnam War have you gained from reading this book? Provide specific details from the book
Since the letter is mostly reflective, it is ok to use the first person (I) in moderation; however,
avoid the second person (you). Organize your ideas as you see fit, but make sure you have
multiple paragraphs including some form of introduction and conclusion. End your letter with an
appropriate salutation (Sincerely).
Type your letter using a 12 point font and 1.0 spacing.
