It is time to examine a product in your own life. Identify a product in your home or something you own. You are going to research the origins of this product so ideally you will choose something that was produced in another country.
After you’ve chosen your product begin researching where it came from. You may have to think back to where you bought it or look at the branding. Then answer the following questions in 4-5 sentences each:
Describe the product. What is it? What brand? How old is it? Etc. Include a picture
Identify the origins of the product. Where was the product made? This could be many places and you should try to track down the origins of all of the parts. What brand produced it? What companies were contracted to actually manufacture the product? Can you find out anything about the company?
Analyze the labor conditions for the product. What laws protect workers in the country where the product was manufactured? How old is the average worker at the plant? What is the minimum wage in the country of origin? What kind of conditions are at the company?
Assess the situation. How do you feel about the conditions surrounding the product? After learning how much the workers were likely paid to produce the product, how do you feel about the price you paid for the product? Would you make the same purchase again, why or why not?
