A significant portion of your grade will be earned through writing two critical essays. There will be options of topics and you must develop a clear thesis statement to ground your paper. You are expected to demonstrate your ability to synthesize course material and use critical thinking skills. This is not to an assignment that is about simply summarizing the readings. You will us course materials to support your thesis statement and bring in a minimum of THREE additional academic sources per essay to add depth and breadth to your writing.
Each essay should each be 6-8 pages in length (not including references or title page), double-spaced in 12-point font and APA style.

essay should have title and reference pages, clear thesis statement, introduction and concluding paragraphs and body paragraphs that each contain a new idea.

Using course readings, lecture, three outside sources and your own ideas develop a thesis statement and critical essay in relation to one of these topics.
1. The ethical and practical implications of punishment
2. Compare and evaluate retributive, rehabilitative and restorative justice
3. Justice needs of victims, offenders and community
4. Restorative justice and the law
