Write a close analysis of a modern poem that rewrites a Greek myth.
It might help you to read Camille Paglia’s analysis of Yeat’s poem Leda and the Swan before you do this exercise (to be posted on Gauchospace). Make notes on the kind of thing that she comments on (e.g. the form of the poem, the imagery used – some of the same things that you have been identifying in the Eli Review exercises). Then see if you can comment on the same characteristics in the poem you have chosen to analyze. Do not be limited by this – you can comment on other aspects of the poem also. You could choose one of the poems to be provided on the Gauchospace site, or one of your own choosing. ‘Modern’ for the purposes of this assignment means anything published in the 20th or 21st centuries).
