Some of you have asked, “what is phonetics good for?” and “why do we have to study phonetics?” Those are legitimate questions. But I want to take it a step further and ask, “what is linguistics good for?” Clearly, it is a field of study that people get degrees in and eventually also find work that uses the skills and the knowledge they acquired. To answer this question and to further understand the importance of this field, please do the following. There are many and you might be surprised to see how varied they are. They seem to span so many areas of our lives. 2. Click on the link to read more about the topic you chose. 3. In 250 words describe to us what linguists who specialize in this field do. What do they learn, where do they work, what are they interested in, and how their expertise helps the world or the people they work with. DO NOT COPY/PASTE.
