This commentary’s focus is on what’s an important research development, which can include things like a new finding, a new program, new treatments, controversies or advancements in the abnormal psychology field. Their significance/importance should be clearly and correctly discussed.
Structural Outline of Paper: 5 pages of writing double spaced
1)An introduction to the topic and a brief overview of the existing knowledge
on the topic prior to the publication of the research paper (include why this study
was performed – what was the gap in our knowledge that it filled? This is where
most citations will be included)
2)A brief description of what was found (and the methods, if relevant) in the
the research study (aka the results)
3) (Largest section) A commentary on the significance/importance of the results and how the research
study has advanced the field. You should highlight the major points of the research, commenting on
potential implications and significance. Rather than a critique that looks at negative aspects of the paper, you are commenting on the strengths of the research and why it is important to abnormal psychology. Please provide support for an existing theory or model, lead to new treatments, etc. insight.
4) Reference list (this will be on page 6 and excluded from the essay paper. It will have an
abstract and the author information). Abstract not needed for commentary.
Writing Style:
-3rd-person, using scientific language, and be concise.
-(title page, font, page numbers, in-text citations, reference list, etc) must
be formatted in APA style.
