Info:
Culture is a set of beliefs, attitudes, values, and perspectives on
how the world works. Culture can be passed down from one generation to
the next and is invisible (SHRM, 2020).
You reviewed three cultural theories frequently visited by HR
practitioners. These are high and low context cultures by Edward T.
Hall, dimensions of culture by Gert Hofstede, and cultural dilemmas
theory by Fons Troy Trompenaars and Charles Hampden-Turner.
You discussed “malicious compliance” and learned why organizations should avoid such conduct.
Cultural intelligence was also noted and how it influences diversity
consciousness. Without recognizing cultural intelligence, cultural
conflicts arise.
You reviewed the various communication challenges that accompany a
culturally diverse workforce. The recognition of diversity is fraught
with issues. When working with various cultures in a diverse setting,
communication issues will undoubtedly arise.
Lastly, you examined reconciling cultural dilemmas through a synergistic approach.
