Introduction
Freud referenced dreams as, “The interpretation of dreams is the royal road to the knowledge of
the unconscious activities of the mind.”(Front. Psychol., 23 August 2018) Understanding what
dreams may be trying to communicate is an important skill to have. In 2006, a man named
Sherman Sizemore committed suicide because he could not stop reliving the time he had
wide-awake surgery. He experienced bad dreams and terrors not only at night but during the day
as well. Experiencing these dreams every day and night, for two weeks and the physical pain
from only being administered a paralyzing drug by the anesthesiologist during his exploratory
surgery; caused him to put an end to his subconscious misery. If only he had understood what his
dreams were trying to articulate to him, then perhaps he could have searched for help before
resorting to his ending actions. With the understanding of dream interpretation, dreaming can
give someone a better understanding of their subconscious and what it may be trying to
articulate
