The purpose of this assignment is for you to assess you comfort with cultural differences and identify how you can improve your ability to work effectively with people from a different culture. In our first class, we will focus on the role of cultural understanding and consider how cultural misunderstanding impacts business effectiveness.
To complete this assignment you will (1) identify your home and comparison cultures (where you are from and where you anticipate working or the culture you would like to understand better; (2) using the scales we discussed in class (communicating, evaluating, persuading, leading, deciding, trusting, disagreeing, scheduling) Identify the area you want to improve. Describe your current ability, the benefit of improving, and three actions you will take this semester to improve. In your discussion, consider what you would do as a team leader to address this issue for someone from a different culture. This will be a 1 1/2-2-page (300-500 word) double-spaced paper. This is an individual assignment. Please review the additional information and rubric on Canvas. The hallmark of the effective writer is that you never turn in your first draft. Write a first draft, wait a day or so, make additions and revision as you see fit.
All papers should include the following: your name, assignment title, date, and page numbers. Papers should use Times New Roman 12-point font, be double-spaced with 1” borders. Papers must be uploaded on Canvas by the specified time on the due date. If you have difficulty, let me know in advance. Late papers (without prior permission) will be penalized by reduction of 10% of total points for each 24-hour period that the paper is late.
