Read the press release (linked above) about a recent study of infant brain development. (That press release contains a link to a published journal article if you would like to read a more complex description of the study and results. You can do the assignment based on the press release about the study.)
To write
Write an essay (6 paragraphs) to address the following points.
Write a paragraph with a short summary of the experiment and results.
Write two paragraphs in which you generate two possible reasons for these results. For each reason, describe the possible reason and explain how/why it would lead to the results. Make a case for your idea. (Cite your textbook and other sources that you use.)
This is a longitudinal study. Write a paragraph to give the authors some advice for data that they should collect when the babies are five years old. What data would you like to see? Why?
Submission
Start your essay by creating an outline first. (I’ve provided one below.) Do not submit the outline. Use it to plan the essay.
Start the essay with an introductory paragraph and end with a concluding paragraph.
Each paragraph will have a main idea. Focus on being clear so that the reader fully understands what you are saying. Use transition statements as you start new paragraphs. This essay should flow for the reader.
Cite a source for any definition or claim. Use the article, textbook, and/or notes only. Cite and reference your sources using APA style. Citations are in the text itself. References are at the end of the essay.
Read your paper out loud. Listen for places that are awkward or need punctuation.
Save the essay on your computer as a .doc, .docx, or .pdf. Submit in Canvas by clicking the “submit assignment” button at the top of the screen.
Use this outline to organize your essay before writing it. Do not submit the outline.
