Here are some questions you should answer in your analysis 1. What do you hear? For example, who is singing? 2. What makes this tune unique? 3. What aspect of the tune do you remember most? (Words, melody, harmony, beat, orchestration, etc.?) 4. Can you identify the “form” of the tune? In other words, are sections of the song the same, similar, different? 5. What are the words saying? Is the lyric a metaphor for something, or is it straightforward? 6. What do you notice about the recording itself? Is it live or “studio”? Are there clearly parts that were overdubbed (not played live by a four-piece band)? How do these parts interact? 7. Now read about the tune you just listened to. For example… who wrote it? How does knowing something about the tune change what you hear? What do you hear on the second, third listening?
