Brainstorm the issue at hand. What do you want to accomplish? What do you want to avoid? What are the possible results of your note?

Exercise in Rhetorical Sensitivity

You and your roommates are medical students at a prestigious university, and you are committed to being the best in your class. Needless to say, you need a lot of quiet study time. None of you can afford a house, though, so you have agreed on an apartment with strict rules regarding noise. Unfortunately, the young couple who live below you frequently blast loud music, even late at night, and the bass shakes your apartment. After a lengthy discussion with your roommates, you decide not to go to the management just yet; but, instead you decide to leave a note on your neighbor’s door. None of you know or have even spoken to them before, but you can tell by their parking stickers that they are undergraduates at the same university you attend.

Your roommates are cool but you volunteer to write the note. It’s now up to you, to decide exactly what to write.

Procedure:

1. Brainstorm the issue at hand. What do you want to accomplish? What do you want to avoid? What are the possible results of your note?

2. Write a perfect note for this situation. (10 sentences minimum)
