Describe an experience you’ve had with at least one of these biases.

DISCUSSION: System 1 (50 words) Do both discussion questions.
We’ve discussed a number of biases such as availability, representativeness, overconfidence, hindsight, anchoring, confirmation, framing and loss aversion, and escalation of commitment. Respond to one of the two discussion questions below.
1. Describe an experience you’ve had with at least one of these biases.
2. View the brief clip below from the film “Sully” about the pilot who landed a commercial passenger airplane safely on the Hudson River after complete engine failure from flying into a flock of geese. In the clip, Sully is in an FAA hearing debriefing the landing with the assumption based on flight simulations that he could have landed the plan safely at La Guardia Airport. Based on this clip, what decision making bias or biases do you think the FAA was guilty of?

DISCUSSION: Applications of Motivation (50 words)
We’ve looked at a number of different theories of motivation including:
> Herzberg (hygiene factors & motivators)
> Equity theory (reward/effort = r/e & monkey example)
> Expectancy (f=e[v*i])
> Goals (specific, challenging- logging example)
> Self determination (3 basic needs)
> Learning and performance orientations (class goals)

What are your top three favored approaches to understanding motivation? Why did you pick these three?
