Developing Your Guiding Thesis

Instructions
Adding to your Unit 2 – Assignment: Topic and Research Questions, revise the following based on any instructor feedback that you received:

Identify a topic (this can be just about anything, from a topic you are learning about in another course to something you read or saw on the news recently that sparked your interest). In one paragraph, explain your topic and why you want to study it.
Craft an inductive research question.
Craft a deductive research question.
Then, take your research questions and:

Develop guiding thesis statements. Remember, for your exploratory essay, the guiding thesis statement needs to lead to an inductive inquiry and for your research paper, the thesis will be an assumption/hypothesis that leads to deductive inquiry. Both will be an argument; something capable of development based on evidence.

Module Learning Outcome(s) Addressed

((Unit 2 – Assignment: Topic and Research Questions))

Board Certified Behavior Analysts.
I want to study the role of Board Certified Behavior Analysts (BCBAs) in helping autistic children through applied behavior analysis (ABA) and other interventions. Autism spectrum disorder (ASD) is an increasingly prevalent condition affecting millions of children across the United States and other parts of the world. Although there is no cure for the disorder, certified behavior analysts can help children and adolescents cope with communication issues, social skills, and uncontrollable behavior. Applied behavior analysis is one of the most prominent and popular approaches to teach autistic students to regulate their behaviors and improve coordination or communication skills (Yu et al., 2020). The best outcomes for ABA are possible when professionals and trained experts like Board Certified Behavior Analysts can implement the training programs among autistic children. However, the increasing demand exerts significant pressure on existing BCBAs due to the limited availability of experts. The rising prevalence of ASD stresses the need for employing evidence-based interventions like ABA, but the limited supply of qualified providers like BCBAs creates numerous challenges (Zhang & Cummings, 2020). I want to study the topic because I want to learn how BCBAs can help autistic children through ABA and other evidence-based intervention techniques. I also want to understand how the government and policymakers can fill the gap between service providers and users.
Inductive research question: How BCBAs of the United States are managing African-American autistic children through ABA and other interventions?
Deductive research question: What are the effects of different interventions including ABA for treating African-American autistic children of the United States?
