Your second paper will be to reconstruct and analyze an argument from Hume’s Treatise, or Merleau-Ponty’s World of Perception. The grading focus for this paper will be your analytic skills. Here you will focus on providing perspective on the material that we are covering. You will develop brief critical analysis and perspective on these texts. The paper should softly be between 1250-2500 words (3-7 pages).
You can provide philosophical analysis in several different ways some of which are:
analyzing an argument structure, the evidence he uses to make his argument, or challenge an author’s assumptions etc.
apply an argument to an issue that he does not and discuss if it challenges or supports an author’s argument
compare an author’s argument to another argument (either from this class or outside) and discuss how the two arguments relate to one another (i.e. are complimentary, challenging, etc.)
