3 body paragraph about Because I could not stop for death by Emily Dickinson You may choose to write a five-part essay in which each of the three body paragraphs addresses one of the categories below.
A discussion of the form and language of the poem. For example, does it rhyme? What is the rhyme scheme? Is it a closed form poem? If so, which form? Are there repeated lines or stanzas? What sort of language does the poet use? Why? Does the poet use any poetic devices such as simile, metaphor, symbolism, personification, etc.?
A discussion of your understanding of the meaning of the poem. What is the poet writing about? How do you interpret the poem’s meaning? Is the poem’s meaning related to any specific themes, such as discrimination, death, or love? How does the language and the poetic devices the poet uses in the poem relate to its meaning?
A discussion of a few specific important parts of the poem. Look for specific lines or phrases that you feel are especially important, and analyze them in detail.
Secondly, you should find one outside source, which you will cite using a direct quotation. The source should help you to analyze one point in the poem. Perhaps the source is on biographical information on the author. Or, perhaps, it deepens a reading on a theme or idea you have found in the poem.
This assignment should be TYPED, and at least 3 pages long. If you quote from the poem, give the LINE NUMBERS instead of page numbers.
