Hello Everyone,
I watched a documentary over the weekend titled, “Downfall: The case against Boeing”. I thought the movie was very insightful to the struggle faced by a lot of industries. How to make the most money possible but still offer a safe and reliable product.
Although the movie didn’t really talk about management accountants, they would have had a big part to play in providing management cost reports which they would have used to direct the finances of the company. The movie makes some interesting points about what Boeing has done over the past few decades and if you want to watch the movie and write a 2-page report on how you think management accountants can help or hurt in cases like this. In your report, try and think what might have been going on in the back offices with managing the company from an accounting perspective and then explore some of the pressures a company can face when trying to reduce costs and show more profit but still have safe and reliable products.
