In chapter 5 I learned the difference between hearing and listening. Our textbook defines hearing as “the physiological ability to perceive the presence of sounds in the environment. If you have that physiological ability, hearing occurs when sound waves strike your eardrums and cause vibrations that are transmitted to your brain.” Our textbook indicates that “listening occurs when the brain reconstructs these electrochemical impulses into a representation of the original sound and then gives them meaning.” I will apply my learnings by making sure I am both hearing and listening to my professors when they are lecturing at Prince George’s Community College (PGCC). By applying these skills at PGCC, I will increase my chances of earning better grades and being successful beyond college.
