Your integrative review of the literature has two purposes: 1) to provide both a comprehensive and up-to-date review of the major literature, both historic and contemporary, most relevant to your topic; and 2) to show that you have mastered a critical understanding of this literature (Galvan, 1999). In other words, this is not simply a summary of the information you find, but a critical review of the current state of knowledge on the selected topic, its evidence base, the quality of existing research, and the identification of research gaps that remain to be filled. Student must provide evidence of the credibility of such sources. For length, students may generally expect to cite at least 8 sources in their review; the length of the review will generally result in a paper of 13 pages or more double-spaced (not counting the title page, table of contents, reference pages, etc.).
