For this paper, you will produce a film analysis of a movie through a sociological lens. This is
not a summary of the film but an analysis of the film using sociological concepts that we have
discussed and read about throughout the semester.
The paper should be between 2-3 pages in length, typed, double-spaced, and APA
Format. See the syllabus for rules regarding plagiarism, you MUST cite sources. i.e. (Henslin,
2016).
In the introduction of your paper, include a brief synopsis of the film (no more than half a page
for the synopsis part), and lay out what you plan to cover. Your intro should map out where you
are taking the reader. For example: This paper will discuss how the film exemplifies social
control and racism.
Questions to answer in your paper:
1. Using your sociological imagination, what is your analysis of this movie? Make sure to
review the sociological imagination in the text when responding to this question.
2. Analyze the film using one or more theories, such as (but not limited to): structural
functionalism, conflict, or symbolic interactionism. Be sure to define the theory and cite
the text.
3. a. How are the issues/topics that we are reading about in class discussed or displayed in
the movie? (whether it is race, gender, deviance, etc) b. How does the movie help you to
understand these topics?
