Part 1: Journal Article Brief You are required to independently conduct a literature review and present a draft article for publication. The below follows guidance from The Nursing Times author guidelines which will enable you to consider submission for publication of your article following marking. • This [part 1] should be 4000 words long. You should discuss the literature in a clear, logical format, broken into sections as appropriate to guide the reader through the article. This should highlight the main elements nurses should consider in their field of practice and consider positive lifestyle changes for patients, families, and communities. This should be at a standard that could be published. Most importantly, it must reflect academic writing at level 6. • The aim of this journal article is to: • Draw out key issues relevant to the subject. • Evaluate the strengths and weaknesses of relevant literature. • Identify gaps in the literature or problems to be solved. • Draw together the main themes and arguments. • Explain the relevance of the literature and its implications for nursing practice. [NB: the word counts are for guidance] Abstract 250 words approx (not included in your word count) A brief overview of the topic, thematic literature review, conclusions, and application to practice Introduction – 350 words approx. Present the topic area for this journal article that the literature review will address. To present your topic, please include a discussion of: 1. Definition of key terms to outline positive lifestyle choice to identify the problem 2. The population or demographics of the patients/service users as related to your topic 3. The impact of this topic on practice 4. The impact of this topic on communities 5. The impact of this topic on quality of life Please consider how this relates to the topic and your field of nursing. LITERATURE REVIEW Literature Review Method 250 words approx. Please provide an overview of how you found the literature used for this literature review. Please include an overview of your search criteria: • Databases accessed • Search terms • Boolean Phrases • Inclusion and exclusion criteria Literature Review – [LO a, b, c & d] 2500 words approx. From the literature that you have found, please evaluate the strengths and weaknesses of relevant literature using a critiquing tool. From your literature,. you need to identify what the recurrent themes are across the research you have read. You need to identify a minimum of 3 themes for discussion. Please use subheadings to present your themes. These themes need to be supported by credible, peer-reviewed research. Summation of the literature review [LO d]- 200 words approx. Identify gaps in the literature or problems to be solved then draw together the main themes and arguments. Application – [LO b & d] 500 words approx. Explain the relevance of the literature and its implications for nursing practice and identify possible solutions/recommendations to meet positive lifestyle change in individuals, families, and communities. Conclusion –200 words A summary of what was presented within the literature and how this will influence positive lifestyle change must not include any new information. Please aim for a minimum of 20 references for this journal article.
