Share an additional resource that supports your classmate’s post and explain what the resource adds to your classmate’s response.
1. The social issue that I chose is Health Care Reform. Health care reform is a restructure of the way insurance affects the health care system. I chose this social issue mainly because I do believe the cost of health care is highly overpriced. This is an issue that I see people face firsthand every day in my current profession. Many people avoid going to the doctor simply because they cannot afford the possible treatment that they may need. The Affordable Care Act was passed in 2010 by Former President Barack Obama. ACA was created so that health coverage could become affordable for more people. The Affordable Care Act vastly became known as “Obama Care’.
Health Care Reform is a public issue. Unfortunately, social class plays apart in health care. An insured patient would possibly be treated before an uninsured patient. There are several other factors that play a part in health care. Even with having federally funded insurance such as Medicaid, certain guidelines have to be met. Also, not all treatment is covered by federally funded insurance coverage.

2. The social issue that interest me is mental illness. Mental illness are a wide range of conditions that affect your mood, thinking, and behavior such as, depression, dementia, and bipolar disorder. These behaviors can last for a long or short period of time. With the right treatment the majority of individuals can still function in their daily lives.
Within a society mental illness looks like discrimination. It is hard for an individual to find work, other people fear an individual with mental illness, and they are unable to live a normal life. A personal problem when dealing with mental illness is have a steady and lasting relationship. I feel in order to have that type of relationship an individual must find someone who understands their condition, is willing to accept them as they are, and have good patience. A public issue the individual may deal with is finding decent housing or feel at risk of being attacked. While watching the video Sociological Imagination, Mills argue that history is an important element in sociology imagination. The different events that was featured in the video lets a person see where their life is at compared to others.
