Case Analysis Assignment – Throughout the course, student will work to apply knowledge
from the course to a case study assignment. For this case study, students will be asked to
identify one criminal justice agency to analyze identify key issues and develop a strategic plan
of no more than 12 pages. Students should incorporate materials from the course and are to identify other scholarly sources to support their plans.
Identify a criminal justice agency.
Your analysis should address the following components:
Mission statement
Leadership and organizational structure
Goals and objectives
Performance measures for evaluation
Organizational culture
Other relevant facets of the organization
Provide recommendations for a strategic plan.
Incorporate materials from the course and other scholarly sources into your plan. You will need a minimum of two scholarly sources for each page.
The overall organization of each student’s case analysis may vary, but your paper should consist of the following key elements. Each section may be divided into subsections.
Brief description/overview of organization: Agency size, location, what they do, key statistics, etc. (Maximum of 2 paragraphs)
Description of the key areas related to the course materials. This information can be based on a review of publicly available information from department websites and/or general information based on standards in that field. (Approximately 2–3 pages)
Organizational structure and environment
Organizational leadership
Organization’s mission and vision statements
Organization’s goals and objectives
Organization’s evaluation of effectiveness
Organization’s culture
Any other issues/areas you’ve identified for analysis
Analysis of key areas: Apply the knowledge from class to critically assess your agency in each core area described above. This section should include relevant citations to course materials and you are encouraged to include other peer-reviewed research to support your analysis. (Approximately 3–4 pages)
Discussion and Proposed Recommendations (Approximately 2–3 pages)
From your analysis, summarize major problems in need of solving.
Investigate and discuss possible solutions to 1–2 key issues identified through your analysis.
Include a brief review of research evidence related to the proposed solution(s).
Implementation and obstacles: Provide suggestions on how changes should be implemented and identify possible obstacles to effective implementation and how those should be mitigated. This should be informed by course materials and research. (Approximately 1-2 pages)
