WHAT TO WRITE (Writing Prompt)—
In 2-3 paragraphs well-written paragraphs, using specific quotes from the texts, respond to the following prompt:
Unique to this story is that it is based on actual events and real people. It is, quite simply, a representation of a moment in American History.
That said, using your thread, explore how this literature-to-film translation of Shetterly’s Hidden Figures compares to the OTHER film translations we’ve studied thus far. How, in your opinion, is the director more careful with the “telling” of events? Is there still a BIG Hollywood film moment (shock, drama, action, big reveals, romance etc…), or does the director shy away from these moments in order to protect the accuracy of the story and sacrosanct importance of the subject matter and themes? Does the director somehow manage to give the audience a combination of both?
