Participants
will analyze individually a case study using the concepts covered in the
business strategy course
Please
pick a company of your choice (ideally, a business unit of your current or
previous company, or a competitor) and do a strategic analysis using all the
concepts and frameworks discussed during the Business Strategy course. (Some
firms might have several business models, please make sure to focus your paper
on a single business model). Business Model: Value propesition, Value architucture and Profit equation)
The company can be any top company with a lot of material that wil help you analyze such as: Apple, Nike, Coca Cola, Pepsi..etc
The
objective is to decipher
the origin of the competitive advantage of the firm you analyze.
Each
participant should go through a careful analysis:
·
External analysis:
industry analysis, competitors, market dynamics,…
·
Internal analysis:
current business model and resources / capabilities
Ideally,
you will use this exercise to formulate recommendations, including aspects of
business model innovation (if relevant). This assignment will allow
participants to demonstrate their analytical
skills as well as their ability to formulate creative and insightful
recommendations (see assessment sheet in appendix).
However,
the final report should be more than a check list of topics treated in
isolation. Uncovering the connections
between the different strategy frameworks of the module in
the context of the industry will likely unlock unique insights. Thus, your
final paper should not simply list your analysis but present it in a synthetic
and engaging way. The report should resemble an executive summary to the CEO of
the company.
An
example of a good executive summary is provided in the attached document.
