Each assigned
to play the role of one of the negotiating blocs (e.g., governments of developed and developing
countries, oil companies, and environment NGOs) of a hypothetical ‘World Summit on Plastic
Pollution’, which aims to promote understanding of the state of plastic pollution and actions to reduce
it. Based on the role it plays, each group should prepare for its participation in the Summit with attention
to the following questions:
• How does plastic pollution matter to you?
• What are the possible responses to plastic pollution?
• What is your position on the above responses? Why?
• How can you mobilise other negotiating blocs to support your position?
To gain some basic understanding of the state of global plastic pollution, attend the project briefing
during the class of Week 4, and consult the following:
