Impact of Law

In your initial post, first you will introduce yourself to your peers. Along with your introduction, share your career goals, such as the type of company you hope to work in or the job role you seek.

Next choose an area of business law, such as employment law, contract law, finance law, or environmental law. Name the area of business law you selected, describe what value you think these types of law have from the perspective of running a business, and explain any disadvantages you think these types of law have for businesses.

In your response posts, describe the impact you think the area of law your peers selected has on society as a whole.

Please describe yourself in the introduction. As well please use your own thinking for the inital post and do not COPY the response post at all. You must individually respond to both peers.

Response 1: Hello classmates, my name is Tyler Williams. I look forward to reading everyone discussion posts. I recently finished my Associate’s degree in Business from a local community college. This is my first term at a 4 year university. I work and go to school full time. I plan to get my Bachelor’s in business management to further my knowledge so that I can own my own business. I am still determining what business I would like to own but have interest in a car detailing shop. In high school, I worked at an interior carwash where we detailed cars and it caught my interest. With the ever increasing technology and corresponding price increase of automobiles, I believe it will drive people to want to keep their cars in the best condition as possible.

Contract law will have an important impact on my career as I will need agreements with customers and suppliers. Contract law creates roles and responsibilities between parties, limits liability and outlines how disputes are resolved. Contracts also can provide consistent terms and pricing for resources and products (Smyth 2020).

The disadvantages to contract law is it can become detailed and cumbersome. When attorneys have to be engaged to negotiate terms, contracts become costly and time consuming. If a contract is too detailed and an item is left out unintentionally, the consequences can be costly (Smyth 2020).

Response 2: Hello, my name is Tom Lelfer, I became licensed as an RN in 1986 and have worked in acute care since. I have worked in many areas of the hospital, I have filled in in ER and Recovery Room, I have worked on the medical floor and the surgical floor, but I have worked the longest, around 16 or 17 years in the intensive care department. I now work per-diem in the ICU of a local hospital. I am in the Business Administration program with an emphasis in Healthcare Administration. I am back in school to fulfill my own personal desire, to earn a Bachelors. I started a couple of times in Nursing to obtain my BSN but was working as a nurse and studying nursing was a burn out, so I quit. I changed concentrations and am now back in school.

The area of law that I find interesting is environmental law. I think many businesses find it to be a bit of a pain, but it can be useful not only for the environment but for the business as well, if for no other reason than bragging rights and kudos in advertising. The laws are there to protect fragile ecosystems from damage as well as endangered species. Without the law to protect them many unscrupulous businesses would be free to trample not only the more fragile environmental systems but be allowed to poison the water supplies and ground where food is grown. So, even though they may seem a pain, or add to the cost of doing business, their importance cannot be understated.
