Insert yourself into one of the works that we have read or listened to (Beowulf, The Epic of Gilgamesh, The Iliad, Chaucer’s Canterbury Tales). Retell the story from your character’s point of view. For example, if we had read Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs, you might be Sleepy’s mother who comes to visit and discovers that your son and his friends have taken in a strange human girl. What’s her story? How did she come to find their home in the forest? How has she changed their lives? How long does she plan to stay? Do you like her? Why?

A very good example of this type of creative storytelling is the stage play Rosencrantz and Guildenstern are Dead by Tom Stoppard. It retells Shakespeare’s Hamlet from the point of view of two minor characters in the stage play. (If you haven’t seen the movie or stage play, you really need to do. Brush up Hamlet first.)
(Obviously, since haven’t read these works, these are just examples. Make up your own character, insert them into one of the stories that we’ve read, and tell the tale from their viewpoint.)

Consider style, language use (Old, Middle, or Early Modern English), form (e.g. prose vs. poetry), cultural norms (i.e. gender, race, occupation, class, etc.) and any other issues that would impact your character. You may have to do some research into the historical context and work that you are using. Cite sources of any information and include a bibliography page at the end of your paper.
Plan to write 2-3 pages not counting any cover and bibliography pages that may be necessary. You may write more the three pages.
