You must support the discussion with references to at least four peer-reviewed scholarly
sources. You can also reference as many non-peer-reviewed sources as you
like. However, do not include any quotations longer than two lines. This is a firm
rule. Selective quoting (e.g., quoting snippets of a passage) is a hallmark of
effective scholarly engagement. Yes, we have all seen books and articles in
which authors include lengthy (3–10 line) quotes. But this practice is discouraged
in the thesis for reasons I will explain in class.
