This quarter, we have examined several texts and questioned what makes the texts queer. For this assignment, you will write an argumentative, thesis-based paper about one of the three book choices: Zami, Angels in America, or Black Wave. The paper should focus on one specific aspect or theme of the work and make an argument about how this theme or aspect relates to queerness (through content? Form? Remembering of queer history/pasts? Etc.) and why this might be important.
For thesis topics, try and zone in on one specific aspect of the book you choose to analyze rather than spreading yourself too thin. Your goal should be to show a deepened analysis of a particular theme/aspect of the text rather than listing examples or giving an overview.
The paper should include one peer-reviewed source to support the essay’s argument.
At a minimum, your paper needs to satisfy these criteria. However, remember that I will not just be looking at whether a feature is present or not, but on how well it has been integrated into your paper. The critical analysis should
• include an argumentative thesis that focuses on one aspect of the text and relates to queerness
• include specific examples from the text that support the thesis
• analyze textual examples to support the thesis
• include one peer-reviewed source that supports the paper’s thesis
• contain paragraphs that enable readers to follow your ideas and understand your argument
• have few, if any, errors in correctness.
• meets page length requirements (3-4 pages, 1000 words min., not including Works Cited)
• formatted for MLA guidelines
• Includes a Works Cited page for the text and the additional source
