Choose two ethical theories from Introduction to Philosophy: Ethics, edited by George Matthews and Christina Hendricks, and produced with support from the Rebus Community. The original is freely available under the terms of the CC BY 4.0 license at https://press.rebus.community/intro-to-phil-ethics/. You may choose from:
Virtue Ethics. Giles, Douglass “Chapter 3. How Can I be a Better Person? On Virtue Ethics.”
Ethical Egoism. Kao, Ya-Yun “Chapter 4. What’s in it for Me? On Egoism and Social Contract Theory”
Utilitarianism. Abumere, Frank “Chapter 5. Utilitarianism.”
Deontology. Kranak, Joseph “Chapter 6. Kantian Deontology.”
Feminist Ethics. Makay, Kathryn “Chapter 7. Feminism and Feminist Ethics.”
Write an essay (i) explaining in details the main claims of the first ethical theory you choose (e.g. ethical egoims), (ii) explaining in details the main claims of the second ethical theory you choose (e.g. Feminist Ethics), (iii) state which of these theories you find most persuasive and explain in detail why.
Skill you must demonstrate: ability to compare and contrast arguments.
I suggest you proceed in the following fashion:
Read the two theories of your choice. If they focus around a specific author, review your author’s position and connections on the visualization tool developed by Deniz Cem Önduygu.
Write a 700- to 1000-word paper addressing the points above.
Format your paper according to MLA standards.
