Length: minimum three pages and maximum six pages (not counting works cited), so a
minimum of three pages plus a works cited page, etc.
• Format: typed in MLA format using Microsoft Word (.doc or .docx)

Documentation:
a. Works cited entries:
Immediately after the essay but beginning on a separate page, compose the
works cited entries. You must document the article that you have refuted.
b. In-text citations:
Every time you quote, summarize, or paraphrase a source, you must include an
introductory signal phrase and a parenthetical (in-text) citation. R *Note: You should
not need many, if any, quotations, etc. because this paper is not about what some
other source has “said” but rather why you disagree with either Bird’s article or
Delbanco’s article.
c. Source restrictions:
Wikipedia is unacceptable. Avoid all “wiki” and “pedia” sources.

In the Typed Submission:
1. Use the name of the author whose position you are refuting as a part of the title of your essay
(i.e.: Refutation of Bird’s Article / Refutation of Delbanco’s Article).
Student’s Last Name and Chronologically Ordered Page Number

2. Compose a complete and well-developed essay that presents your rebuttal of the position you
selected.
