Ponder the following thoughts:
How do we prevent stress if we do not know how to manage stress?
How do we manage stress if we do not recognize it?
How do we recognize stress if we do not connect with ourselves?
How do we connect with ourselves if we are feeling stressed?
Please respond to 1) the 3 questions of self observation, 2) interview 3 people who know you very well, to identify their observations of your stress and how it manifests, and 3) reflect on and respond to the summary questions. Why? Because often we accept a way of being as normal, that others may notice is not healthy or “normal.” This assignment is a self realization and reflection opportunity.
1) Observe yourself
What do you think are your triggers that cause you stress (e.g. a deadline)
How do you feel stress (e.g. fast heart beat)
What you do when you are stressed (e.g. cry, yell)
2) Interview 3 friends and family, asking them:
What do they see are the triggers of your stress (e.g. problem customers at work, hungry)?
How do they see stress manifest in your body (e.g. they hear you complain of headaches)?
What habits do they see you have when you are stressed (e.g. eat cookies)?
3) Reflect on your stress experiences, what others have shared with you, and what this means for your health. Stress is a powerful player in chronic disease development, as it alters our dietary choices, exercise plans, and sleep quality.
Are you aware of how stress impacts you?
How long do you think you have had these stress habits?
Do you want to change this, or continue?
Personal responsibility question: Do you want to be a statistic? What do you think that means?
