Develop a thesis that posits a
specific, debatable opinion that you carry throughout your paper. Select two to
four representative passages from one or more of the assigned readings or other
scholarly sources to analyze closely
as support for your thesis. Avoid merely summarizing key points from the text
but rather explain why these passages specifically support your argument or
analysis. Similarly, you should not reiterate points from the readings verbatim
but you may use your passages to further develop these ideas. Keep your
discussion focused on the texts but feel free to include outside research,
including personal experience, for this essay. Your paper will be graded on its
focus, depth of thought, and expository competence as per the grading
guidelines outlined in the syllabus. All work must be solely your own, and
plagiarism will not be tolerated.
