You have to focus on and
emphasize writing that is practical, approachable and accessible to a public audience.
You will
be writing on your blog site, for your audience, about topics related to this course and of your choosing on focusing on digital media, speculative media, and the future ‘space’ of
media/life, to the future spaces of
media/creativity.
The blogs are meant to be somewhat speculative, imaginative, and playful, but also need
to be grounded in theory, ideas and given the appropriate context.
you should mention The dark side of artificial intelligence for example (Losing Jobs). You should be taking real world/current events as your subject/topic. You are then expected to give an
academic (with references) analysis of your chosen topic, as well as provide your
own thoughts/opinions.
You are encouraged to speculate and imagine future networks, future cultures,
and future technological spaces in your blog posts, as long as you ground your speculation in
thought/theory.
This analyze-contextualize-synthesize process is a key component to any critical
analysis/thought process.
It’s also very important to consider your audience when writing these blog posts. While you are expected
to write academically, and use and make logical statements, show evidence, etc.
you can also make your
writing somewhat less formal than you might for a ‘traditional’ academic essay. Making logical statements
with evidence means you can’t make things up, it means you still need to avoid blanket statements and
generalizations, for example, ‘We all know that technology does ….’, but it also means you can write in a
way that is more of a conversation with your audience/reader. It’s OK to use I and other personal
pronouns.
